Fish in the Net 2026: Light

October 24, 2026 through February 2027

Sheerly Touch-Ya Warehouse

74-12 88th street, Glendale NY 11385

Fish in the Net is a series of exhibitions that address the volatility and deterioration of infrastructure; how the systems that enable the circulation of materials, people, labor, culture and power can be undermined, degraded, hijacked, subverted or pushed to failure. Throughout this series, we are interested in deterioration for its own sake, but also in “new” ideas or potentials that result from systems in states of distress.

The first exhibition of Fish in the Net, 2026:LIGHT, comprises mostly light-emitting, mostly electronic sculptures, as well as other works which utilize light as a resource or medium. Installed among high piled inventories of hosiery in the Sheerly Touch-Ya Warehouse, the artworks in the show exist in various states of malfunction and misuse - unpredictable flipsides of utility. A lettuce “bolts” when misread signals trigger premature flowering, resulting in frantic, leggy growth that frustrates the gardener. An autonomous vacuum cleaner occasionally sprouts a phantom room and will not rest until it’s clean. The Gordian worm growing inside a cricket induces positive phototaxis - an overwhelming attraction to light - which drives the cricket to drown itself in the glimmer of its own reflection, releasing the worm. Mechanisms continue to operate as signals become displaced, functions mutate, and internal logics produce unintended consequences. Fish in the Net: LIGHT is luminous, decaying, restless and grafted, examining the diversion and dissolution of our utilitarian systems.

Fish in the Net 2026: Light is organized by Shisanwu and Sheerly Touch-Ya Warehouse.
